I'm shopping for a car and stumbled across this gem. How reliable are they? It would be daily driven for a while. I'm just worried about the high mileage.

Audi + Quattro usually = good find! But those wheels are awful, and it needs work so meh.

I'm not too worried about the work, and those wheels don't come with it.

Oh, then fuck it, go for it. MAKE SURE to go onto parking lots and dirt roads when it snows. (Quattro fuck yeah)

I need to research first. I'm the kind of person that has to do that kind of thing before I purchase stuff.

I was about to say, go and find the forums for the car, and see if they have a buyers guide or a "common issues" post. If they don't, just ask.

Ehh. They get typical Audi problems, fuel pump, alternator. At that mileage it might need new shocks, bushings, other small parts if it was driven hard.
Honestly take it for a test drive and see how well it was taken care of.

If he is selling it and buying a Land Rover, I wouldnt trust his idea of reliable. Sorry I have no real advice and just a shitty joke. I guess any car with that mileage is going to run into things sooner rather than later. I would check for maintanence being done. Timing belts, water pumps, that kind of thing. For $2000 though, what the hell.

I'd love to go test drive it, but 2 1/2 hours is a bit of a drive for a test drive.

That's nothing, I've traveled 8+ hours just to get a stupid part no one else had. Go for the adventure, not the destination.
Traveling is a big part of being a car guy, it expands our horizons and open us up to greater things.

I don't mind the drive at all, just finding the time. I have 4,000 to work with by the end of the month, but living in Ohio it's hard to find something that hasn't been molested by Appalachias finest.

Two words: Do. It.

That's not too high given the year. Go for it.

I want to! It's the mileage that worries me. I'm definitely gonna ask him about it though.

177,000 Miles is steep though.

Anyone considering a 20 year old audi knows what he's in for.

That's true. I've had a few suggestions of what to look for. I don't mind the work as long as long as the motor doesn't explode into a billion pieces.

In 2002 I flew to new york, bought a 240sx coupe and drove home to kansas city.
Of course when I got home, I found a black 5 speed coupe 50 miles away.

Isn't it amazing how that works?
